I Dance To The Beat

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get music? Please, I am in desperate need to actually own music (not necessarily by buying it for $1 or $2 a song) and not only listen to Pandora for the rest of my life.

Last night I discovered three new stations on Pandora that you need to check out:
1. Bon Iver - Thanks to my friend Emily from Cape Town, this guy is one of my new favorites
2. Trevor Hall - Special thanks to Clare for always playing his CD in her car
3. Dance Cardio- Please just listen to this while on the treadmill or at the gym
4. Classical Piano Radio- They play nothing but the best and it helps with writing papers (I promise)

Today I worked for a few hours and then had a great mid-week workout at the gym.  I beasted 30 minutes and a little over 3 miles on the treadmill, which I am convinced was more, and hit up some stretching and abs.  I am so astonished by how much my body can transform itself in 6 short weeks--the race is only a few weeks away but I am already so much stronger and will definitely be ready!

High for This.

Collin McLoughlin, have you heard of him?  Seriously, if you haven't by now that I don't know where you have been.  I was turned onto this guy last summer by Brendan, since the two both studied (are studying) at Colgate University.  I'll tell you one thing, this guy can sing and write some pretty great songs along with make great acoustic covers.

Last summer I found myself hitting the streets running to his Back to The Wall and Come Back to You, and over the past year he has only made more great hits.  Not only does he make more upbeat jams but he has also infiltrated a sort of relaxed summery feel that we all love on those hot lake days & long drives.

His latest is a cover of The Weekends| High for This.

Here is the original.

Head over to Mediafire and dl his version, which is personally, more my taste.

No Sun, No Problem.

Its May 1st and the weather this spring has been, umm, less than exciting.  I think in the handful (and yes I mean maybe 5) nice days that we have had, people have gone crazy with spring fever.  So maybe it isn't sunny and gorgeous everyday and the rain has everyone down when it starts flooding the streets, but hey, a chill playlist is in order.  Summer is almost here afterall.

For a chill playlist, as I previously mentioned in the last post, requires some typical summer artists.  You know, the ones that you always turn to, they never get old and you can always turn to them.  What about new additions?  Here's what I have:

(1) Rolling in the Deep- Adele
(2) Rolling in the Deep- John Legend
**both versions are necessary because they're both so different.  Look for another post on this at another time.
(3) Alligator Sky- Owl City ft B.o.B.
(4) Can't Let it Go- Goo Goo Dolls
(5) Little Lion Man- Mumford & Sons
(6) The Cave- Mumford & Sons
(7) Dog Days are Over- Florence and the Machine
(8) You've Got the Love- Florence and the Machine
(9) Guns and Horses- Ellie Goulding
(10) Nature Feels- Colin Mcloughlin
(11) Summertime Girl- Shwayze
(12) I Do - Colbie Caillat
(13) Hello- Martin Solveig
(14) Meet Virginia- Train
(15) Love to Get Used- Matt Pond PA

My best friend, Cara, would be so proud that I am finally starting to listen to something other than frat-rap.  While Brendan does have a great eclectic taste in music I seem to get the fratty rap side of me from him and sometimes its nice to listen to the things that make me chipper..which does include country :x
Banjo.

While I am constantly surrounded by the ever so popular "frat rap" and fratty music, sometimes it is nice to get away and go for something with a relaxing feel--you know what I'm talking about, that summer playlist that you find yourself continuously going back to whenever talk radio gets you down.  So instead of my usual O.A.R., Kenny Chesney, Rascal Flatts and Jason Mraz I decided to spice it up a bit and go with some great banjo music.

If you haven't been convinced by the video, take a walk over to Itunes and listen to the rest of their album.  Mumford and Sons have a pretty nice vibe going on.  In addition to The Cave, I would also say some personal favorites include Little Lion Man, Awake My Soul, Sigh No More & Winter Winds.

The craziness of the Banjo may be too much for some of you to handle but if you find yourself liking The Cave or Little Lion Man at all then I've got you.  Give them a chance folks, whatever you want to call this genre of music, it has got ahold of me.

Collin Mcloughlin.

I finally have posted a song before Brendan. EPIC? I think yes.  Collin Mcloughlin is a great artist that graduated from Colgate University and has been making his way into the music industry for a while now.  He has a rather eclectic taste in music if I was to describe it, ranging from more relaxed summer car jams to remixes galore.

Here is the latest from Collin Mcloughlin:

Bangerrrrr.

For those of you unfamiliar with music talk so to speak, a "banger" is a song that you find to be absolutely amazing or just out of this world.  We wouldn't refer to a country song by Rascal Flatts to be a banger because of its genre (don't get me wrong, I am addicted to Rascal Flatts), but think of a great party/driving/pre-game song that everyone knows and screams while raising their glasses of champy.

I present to you, my newest favorite BANGER.  Brendan remixed this song, so he definitely deserves all the credit for when it goes viral.  Let me put it to you lightly, he is a monster with music--not only with discovering the hottest up and coming artists (which most people learn of months later from the radio), but he also makes great beats.

Please do you and your ears a favor.  Click, Download, Blast.

He even made some album art for your itunes, ipod, ipad or whatever you blast your ears with.  Give the guy some credit, he really rocked this one and I'm so excited for him!!

Girlfire.

Introducing: ZOE BADWI.
When Fresh New Tracks posts anything "GIRLFIRE" I am instantly drawn to previewing the song.  This morning I discovered Zoe.  If you're at all interested in Dance-POP or electro, please do me the simple favor of checking her out.  The Australian Native has two great tracks that I found over on FNT-- Accidents Happen and Free Fallin'

Do yourself a favor this weekend, download & play.

Laws.

I figured since I had been posting quite a bit about running lately I should switch it up a bit--the blog is entitled miscellanea for a reason, I could have called it "Running a Half-Marathon" or "Run4life" but I didn't so here are some sick beats to drive/run/chill to.

I should probably dedicate or at least point out that this post would not have been possible without Brendan and his stupendous skill at identifying up and coming artists.  So this is his most recent find that I also agree is a MUST HEAR.

The video above is of the song "Runaway" which is one of my personal fav's from Laws mixtape 5:01 overtime. Courtesy of not only Brendan but also my favorite music blog Fresh New Tracks.

The mixtape also includes a few tracks produced by J.U.S.T.I.C.E League which includes a freestyle of some sort over Calvin Harris's Flashback.

Other songs to look out for from this artist:
Hold You Down
Vintage Futuristic 2
Murder

If I could find one word to describe him it'd be Smooth, his style is catchy and on fire, this guy better be on the radio ASAP.

Turn it Up.

Tonight I met the Abbotts crew at the Cheesecake Factory for dinner.  Oh how I miss them and summer in general.  Please tell me something you think is better than frozen custard (or yogurt) and summer days?

Besides anticipating the vast number of choices offered at the restaurant I was also excited about the music I have added in the past two weeks.  From a few great new artists that have yet to hit the radio (yes I'm a music snob and am somewhat reluctant to post their names), to BRITNEY SPEARS.

Hold it against me already has various remixes which have been released on various music blogs but I think I'll stick with the original for now.

It not only has an electro-pop feel (which I am totally into), but also has a DUBSTEP sequence, which isn't half bad considering the music Britney usually makes.  The music industry is changing and for the better.

Remember her debut single of Baby One more Time?
