Weekly Recap & Welcome Home

Weekly recap:

This past week has been different, to say the least.  My first semester at UR is finally coming to a close and finals are beginning to pile up. I've definitely been trying to keep my cool when it comes to studying, which means not frequenting the library as often as most other students.  However, I have been busy working at other locations, see my post on Panera.  I decided that it is starting to get a bit disgusting, the amount of times I have eaten there in the past week at least.

I have also made sure to keep up with my workouts, thank god!  In spite of all the craziness and hints of snow, these are a MUST.  They keep me sane, in shape and motivated to push further into the night with all my work.  So yes, an hour here and an hour there has definitely made this finals week less stressful than the last.

I completed my first week of half marathon training, yay!  While I had to shift around the days a little bit, I did manage to get it done.

Today I went on a 4m run around the city, through Park Ave, East Ave and Monroe.  The training plan I am using, Jeff Galloway mixed with Hal Hidgon suggests some "run-walking" methods to get you through.  I am not a huge fan of walking just because it makes me feel inadequate compared to those Marathon Runners but it has actually really helped!

Tonight's agenda includes:
1. Study Session from 6:30-8
2. Working late into the night, say 2:30am and finishing my study guide!

also, Carolyn comes home today!!!!!!

Finals and a Rough Start

Finals reading period starts tomorrow.  Where did the semester go?  I feel like it was yesterday that I was making my way up to Rochester for Orientation, afraid as ever.  Well if that isn't the most cliche way to start a blog perhaps mentioning its amount of cliche-ness is.

In any case, over the course of the next week I will be finishing my first semester at UR and what a lovely semester it has been.  I have met the most amazing people, joined clubs I never thought I would join and have pushed myself further than even last semester while surviving it all!

Finals to do:
(1) Excerise every day, keep up with half marathon training :)
(2) Finish fieldwork final paper...TODAY
(3) Epidemiology final
(4) U.S. Health System final
(5) Throw a ranging party for the Class of 2009 at my house

Not bad? Doable. Oh I forgot to mention the two formals tomorrow and thursday.  One is for BPG and the other Alpha Phi!  Can't wait to post pictures on those.

Updates on Training:

Day 1- Went to the RAC and did 10/10 on Elliptical/bike.  Left knee was hurting A LOT.  I think my patella is swollen but obviously I am not a doctor in way shape or form.  Continued for another hour with weigh training circuit!

Day 2 (Today)- I'm setting out for a 3m run around Pittsford today after I finish writing my paper for Fieldwork Research Methods.

Also...Check me out on Pinterest: kylieAbellis.  I'm just getting started with the whole "pinning" business and think the concept in and of itself is pretty unique.  Reminds me in a sense of Evernote or whatever that is called.

Happy Studying!

Starting Over

Today I begin a two week journey which should end with a 5 mile race on November 20th.  I have only ever gotten up to 5 miles once, last winter while training for the Flower City Half Marathon and it was the most exhilarating run. Mind you I did it in -10 degree weather with snow flurries attaching themselves to every part of my exposed skin, but whose actually remembering that?

This morning I set out for another 3 mile run, since I was able to complete my 5k in 26 or so minutes, I am hoping to keep the same pace throughout the next few runs.  I am ridiculously sore from yesterdays workout at the gym and was a bit surprised when my trainer had me work the same muscles that I had sunday (hmmm?) but I am still going to give it a go.

Happy Tuesday folks!
